  • All Animal Encounters activities must be booked in advance
  • Please be aware of any minimum age’s for activities (will be on the web pages)
  • Once a date is booked it cannot be changed or refunded unless due to exceptional circumstances and this is at the discretion of the Centre
  • Participants must abide by the instructions given to them by staff members at all times. We reserve the right to ask the participant to leave the site should they behave in an inappropriate or unsafe manner
  • For Animal Encounter Tours under 16 year olds must be accompanied by an adult (over the age of 18 years)
  • We reserve the right to cancel a booking in any unforeseen circumstances that may arise (a full refund will be given)
  • Please arrive approx. 15 minutes before your allocated activity time
  • We can’t guarantee handling and feeding on all our tours but we will always aim to include some on each tour
  • By booking onto one of the activities you agree to your child taking part in the Junior Animal Keeper Experience. While the College staff and helpers in charge of the activity will take all reasonable care – unless they are negligent they cannot be held liable for any loss, damage, or injury suffered to your child arising during, or out of, the activity. You agree to indemnify Merrist Wood College, its employees, and agents against all liability for injury, loss to person or persons including death and damage to property, legal expenses and direct consequential losses or damage due to the acts or default of your child unless the illness, injury, or death was due to the negligence of Merrist Wood College, its employees, or agents.

Health and Safety

  • Please cover all cuts/abrasions on any exposed skin with a waterproof dressing
  • Please do not smoke, drink or eat in any areas other than the designated areas
  • Hands should be washed at every opportunity, especially before eating and drinking
  • Please do not enter any of the animal enclosures without specific instruction from the Animal Keeper
  • No jewellery other than ear studs can be worn
  • Long hair should be tied back
  • Participants need to be suitably dressed for the outdoors and please be aware that clothes may get dirty or damaged
  • Sturdy footwear should be worn (walking boots or wellingtons are ideal) strictly NO open toed sandals or flips flops please
  • Any accident or injury should be reported to the Animal Keeper immediately so that the appropriate action can be taken
  • In the event of an emergency, please follow the instructions of the Animal Keeper, or leave by the nearest emergency exit and make your way to the assembly point in the car park area
  • All participants must have had an up to date tetanus vaccination
